J.C. Munguia, a native of San Antonio, Texas, never thought he would one day become a New York City salon owner.
After graduating high school, he almost enrolled in fashion merchandising and design, but after a careful evaluation and thought, he found his calling: hair styling.

In 1992, after completing a two-year cosmetology course, he became licensed.
Following graduation, J.C. soon gained employment at Visible
Changes where he honed his craft for seven years.
At Visible Changes, he mastered their particular technique of cutting and coloring that the high-end salon is known for.
“It was a very intense and on-going education program that taught the go-getters in the company to survive in today’s hair industry,” said Munguia.
Soon after being introduced to Visible Changes distinct school, J.C. became a company trainer and educator.
In 1998, after visiting New York City for the first time, he decided to leave San Antonio and live in Manhattan.
It did not take him long to become a hairstylist at John Dellaria in Soho. In fact, upon applying for a stylist position, he was hired on the spot.
J.C. was schooled in Pyrametrics, a style initiated by John Dellaria. At the Soho salon, J.C. became and educator and platform artist with Ariella.
As an Ariella representative, J.C. contributed to hair shows and photo shoots.
After three years, he decided to open his own salon, along with two colleagues: Paul Andrew and Marylou Vasquez.
Without investors hovering overhead, the three ventured on their own, but wasn’t until 2004, that J.C. became co-owner of PANYC.
“It took a few investors to help kick-off PANYC and make it a staple in everyone’s life,” said Munguia.
After being introduced to Michael O’Rourke and Sexy Hair Concepts, J.C., adding another hair system to his stable of techniques.
“PANYC became more alive than ever,” Munguia said.
“As one of three partners, I hope to bring PANYC to a legendary status,” Munguia said.
He added: “After all, a hairstyle without style just isn’t.”
